Pile of pelicans

Some kind of a pelican conference or party. Hope they haven't seen the Hitchcock bird film.

Leaving eventually for more oysters and grouper in appalachicola. Then on to our park near Sopchoppy.

Port St Joe

Dang - I made a small correction on this entry and it moved to the most recent spot and I don't know how to put it back!!!

Another little piece of heaven. Lots of birds - mostly gulls and pelicans. Commercial shrimpers dock here and nearby. Very peaceful. Now, if I could just keep Said from doing his work job, maybe he could relax more.
I tried to post a picture of his oyster lunch on Facebook but haven't seen it yet.

Said had a sumptuous oyster lunch - oysters stuffed with spinach, cheese, and mushrooms. I had my grouper.

Surrounded by feral holly bushes

Henderson State Park in Destin, fl. Beautiful Florida park. Yes, I'm still in my Christmas holiday mode. Be done with it New Year's Day.

Soooooo relaxing.

Biloxi,Mississippi. It was a cold night - 36 degrees. We drove on highway 90 from New Orleans to Biloxi yesterday. We went from uninhibited, hurricane destroyed bayous to million dollar beach houses. The ocean front from Gulfport to Biloxi is fronted with beautiful homes- very beautiful southern plantation type homes.
Gambled my brains out at the Isle View Casino - did the win/lose regime. Ended up a little short, but had way lotta fun. Free buffet for old folks, so we both stuffed ourselves. Spent the night in a hurricane destroyed building/parking lot right on the gulf. Primitive camping in luxury.

Wowie weather

What a Christmas Day! Horrendous storms - several tornados and water spouts. We're under a tornado watch til 8pm - it's 4pm now. Makes for uneasy feelings being buffeted around by big winds and assorted rains. Huge clouds flying past at 55 to 60 mph way up in the sky. Too scary for me. I'll take a normal severe storm in MI. They crash through and they are over. This has been all day.

Merry Christmas to the World

Wishing for peace and happiness and contentment for everyone.

Christmas Eve in the big easy

Great blackened catfish meal and some gin and tonics in the French Quarter last night. Great fun. Love it
Tonight we go to Harrah's for buffet and a bit of the games of chance.
We're staying at Ponchatrain Landing Rv/marina. It's really perfect. The boat you see in the picture is on its way to the Bahamas. Cool! We'll stay another day because of severe storms. We'll have a pizza delivered for our Christmas dinner.
I'm sitting in the sun and am enjoy this Christmas Eve. Missing my family and friends.

Dine and dash

Guy ate half his food, grabbed his beer and jumped over the chain across the French door. Funny and awful at the same time.
However, I had such a delicious blackened catfish. Mmmmmm. I guess bad stuff happens along with the good.

Looked at Devine Chrystal chandeliers. Oh my! I want one!

Surprise

For whatever reason, I opened the electrical hookup box in the next site and found this tiny one inch frog tucked into a corner. He was such a cute little surprise!

Another day at Grand Isle

Way too nice to leave. Walk the beach a lot. There are jetties that prevent the beach from getting much interesting stuff. Too bad the majority of things are plastic bottles and wrappers. Lazy life.
Received two fire ant bites. Yowwy!
Using Rome's remedy - windex - among other stuff. Nasty little bugs.

Perfect isolation.

Grand isle, louisiana. Just a little hill away from the gulf. Chilly, but still awesome. Choppers are constantly flying overhead to and from the oil platforms.
We are so far from everything and the park still has excellent wifi. Amazing! The drive here was almost always surrounded by water. The island is mostly deserted this time of year. There are only 3 rvs in the park. I like that.

Houma,Louisiana

29° 40' 8" N 90° 43' 42" W

Nondescript campground in a unique town. This is where many oil company employees live. It has as many mansions as any place in the us. Very upscale.

I forgot to say that there were pecan trees all over the place at Poches in Beau Bridges and Said gathered tons of them off the ground. What a treat!

Tomorrow we go to Grand Isle State Park. It's at the end of the earth and has wifi. Too bad our MI sp's can't keep up.

There are lots of canals with zillions of shrimp boats throughout the town. If you looked at Houma on a map you would never imagine it has Gulf access. We spent a half our waiting for some barges ang tugs to pass so the bridge could be lowered. Everyone walked around talking -very friendly- then went back to their cars when the bridge opened. No road rage, just so relaxed and carefree.

Another night in Beau Bridge

Way too much good food here to leave. This place is awesome. We always ask the locals where to eat. Sometimes it's an upscale place - the next time it's a shack on a side road. You just can't go wrong with local advice.
Cajun food is hot, tasty, and awesome. That's why we're here.

hot lips and tummy

Very neat campground - has three good size fish ponds and a smokehouse/store/restaurant. Food was definitely good Cajun. I've never had Cajun green bean casserole like this!!! Sure isn't what this granny has ever made. How about scalloped potatoes with HOT pork bits - wow! Took my breath away it was so hot. Their market had unusual meats like alligator, duck, rabbit, etc. alligator cakes Oh my.
Check out Poche on the net.

Day 3

Beautiful campsite. Lincoln lake state park - or something similar. Southern Mississippi. 71 degrees. Leftover roast beef sandwiches.

Shore of the Mississippi

Enjoying sitting outside having a gin and tonic beside the Mississippi River. Watching barges go by. Donated some cash to the Lady Luck casino in Caruthersville, Missouri. Sulty feels great. Us too.
